Prof Bimal Kumar is Professor of Built Environment Digital Futures in Department of Architecture and Built Environment at Northumbria University

Prof Kumar has a long and respected career in computer-based design and construction research. His research career started off with a PhD in Artificial Intelligence applications in Design in the ‘80s from Edinburgh University and has continued working in this thematic area ever since. He has long and active collaborations (through funded Visiting Professorships) at leading research centres in the world in this area including Stanford and Carnegie-Mellon Universities in the USA, NUS (Singapore). He has successfully supervised 20+ PhD students, 3 Prof Doc students and 2 MPhil students as principal supervisor and published extensively. He has led several cross-disciplinary projects funded by EPSRC, Innovate UK, Royal Academy of Engineering, IOSH, HSE and the EU, totalling over £2M. He has published 3 books, more than a dozen edited volumes and 175+ articles in major international journals and conferences.
